Event Details

A unique opportunity to hear the legendary venture capitalist, Willlian H. Draper III, in a candid conversation with Federico Faggin, IT entrepreneur and the designer of the first microprocessor. Mr. Draper will discuss the early days of venture capital, the creation, evolution and future of the industry. Draper was one of the first venture capitalists that invested abroad and will address the challenges and rewards. Venture philanthropy, his latest passion, will also be part of what we expect to be an unforgettable conversation between two extraordinary innovators.

SPEAKERS

  • William H. Draper III is Managing Director, Draper Richards L.P, Draper International and Co-Chairman and Managing Director of The Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation. Mr. Draper is one of the West Coast's first venture capitalists and the founder of Sutter Hill Ventures. Former Chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States and Undersecretary General of the United Nations, he is currently the General Partner of Draper Richards L.P., Draper Investment Company, and Draper International. Draper is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the President's Council on International Activities at Yale University. In 2005, he received the Vision Award from SD Forum and was inducted into the Dow Jones Venture Capital Hall of Fame. In 2006, he received the Silicon Valley Fast 50 Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2009, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Business Forum. Draper has a BA from Yale University, and an MBA, with distinction, from Harvard Graduate School of Business. He lives in Atherton, CA
  • Federico Faggin is Chairman Emeritus of Synaptics, Inc., and President of Federico and Elvia Faggin Foundation, Inc., a not for profit organization dedicated to the study of consciousness. In 1971, Mr. Faggin designed the Intel 4004, the world’s first microprocessor, made possible by the new MOS Silicon Gate technology he developed at Fairchild Semiconductor. After designing the early Intel microprocessors, Faggin became a high-tech entrepreneur, starting Zilog, Inc. in 1974, where he conceived and developed the highly successful Z80 microprocessor, still in production today. Faggin was also co-founder and CEO of Cygnet Technologies, Inc., co-founder and CEO of Synaptics, Inc. and CEO of Foveon, Inc. Faggin is the recipient of the 1988 Marconi Prize, the 1997 Kyoto Prize, and the 2009 National Medal of Technology and Innovation. In 1996, Faggin was inducted to the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Faggin was born and educated in Physics in Italy, and lives in Los Altos Hills, CA.
